Members of Educational Support and Development
Marcel completed his PhD in Educational Administration from the U of S in 1997 and was immediately hired by the College of Medicine to work in Educational Support and Development. He has a Master’s of Education and a double major in Political Science and Economics from the Royal Military College of Canada. He was a classroom teacher mostly for grades 6, 7, and 8 both in Victoria, BC and Saskatoon. He is keenly interested in effective pedagogy especially cooperative learning and active learning strategies. He has also published in the areas of faculty development, educational theory, determining content of courses, and interprofessional education. Marcel bikes to work year round, is the father of four teenagers, and helps with the heavy work in the yard with his ‘Master Gardener’ wife.
Services: Marcel facilitates many of the workshops offered by ES&D including TIPS for faculty, Student Assessment Series, and Instructional Leaders Series. He also coordinates the graduate program in medical education. He is available to provide workshops for Departmental meetings and retreats and assists with consulting services to course coordinators and various College committees.
Ms. Deirdre Bonnycastle has been involved in adult education and program development for 35 years. In her former position as a faculty member in the Extension Division, University of Saskatchewan, she researched the effects of disabilities on participation in university programs and worked extensively in the development of online credit courses. She currently is responsible for teaching TIPS for Clinical Teachers to faculty and residents.
Community Faculty (CF) Program
The CF program started in 2005 as an initiative to increase the participation in ES&D of faculty who are not based in the university. Services include:
Krista completed a Masters degree in Applied Social Psychology in 2008 and has been working with Educational Support and Development since September, 2008. Krista provides advice and support to people in the College of Medicine who require evaluation and research support and is involved in a number of research and evaluation projects. Prior to joining ES&D, she conducted program evaluations with the Saskatchewan Prevention Institute and Community-University Institute for Social Research. In her spare time, Krista enjoys hiking, canoeing and gardening.
After completing a Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Saskatchewan, Sean taught in the secondary system for three years. Following a period of time away from education, he has returned to resume his career at the College of Medicine in an adult education capacity. Sean is primarily responsible for facilitating the TIPS for residents program. He also provides support with a variety of other faculty development programs and initiatives of Educational Support & Development. In addition to his work at ES&D, Sean is pursuing his masters in Curriculum Studies.
Following the completion of the Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Saskatchewan, Greg found his passion for teaching. He was awarded a Masters of Educational Administration in May 2009 and is currently working on his Ph.D. degree. He teaches Anatomy, Embryology, and Physiology and coordinates cooperative small group integrative cases.
Off campus, Greg & his wife have 2 boys. Greg enjoys performing in musical theatre both singing and dancing and also enjoys teaching ballroom dancing and playing volleyball.
