A position is available in the Moore laboratory to pursue MSc or PhD studies in protein structure and protein interaction studies. The research project is focused on understanding the molecular function of a bacterial protein secretion machine. The main objectives in the project are to understand the overall spatial arrangement of the key components of this system relative to the secretion pore. This will also include determining the various molecular interactions between key components of the system. Ultimately we hope to elucidate the molecular structures of the secretion apparatus components and understand how they function from a structural and mechanistic perspective. The project will encompass training in bioinformatics, recombinant DNA techniques, protein expression, purification and characterization. Crystallization and structure determination of key components of this system using facilities at the Canadian Light Source Synchrotron are a major goal of this research project. |

The newly established Protein Characterization and Crystallization Facility at the College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan is seeking a candidate with expertise in various biophysical methods of protein characterization to aid the users in designing their experiments, provide assistance in running the experiments and help in interpreting the results. The instrumentation will include surface plasmon resonance, isothermal calorimetry, circular dichroism, dynamic light scattering, visible, UV and fluorescent spectroscopy, and FPLC instruments for a variety of chromatographic applications. The emphasis of the research will be on protein-protein and protein-small molecule interactions. {download advertisement}
The Research Assistant will work under the supervision of a Research Associate and will be responsible for cloning of bacterial and mammalian genes, site-directed mutagenesis, and protein expression and purification. These activities are part of the ongoing research projects within the laboratory that are directed toward structural and functional characterization of protein complexes involved in host-pathogen interactions. {download advertisement} Positions Available for:
