Generation Squeezed: study released at U of S say today’s families staggering under the pressure
Paul Kershaw of the University of British Columbia released the study with
Nazeem Muhajarine and members of his Healthy Children research team at
the Saskatchewan Population Health and Evaluation Research Unit
(SPHERU), through their early years network, kidSKAN.
Dr. Kalyani Premkumar, Educational Support and Development, Associate Professor in Community Health & Epidemiology was awarded the 2011 Provost’s Outstanding Teaching Award for the College of Medicine; She was also appointed by the AFMC Board of Directors to Chair the Resource Group on Faculty Development.


Dr. Lori Hanson, assistant professor in Community Health & Epidemiology, was awarded a 2010-2011 Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation (SHRF) New Investigator Establishment Grant during an awards ceremony on December 2, 2010. Dr. Hanson is exploring how midwifery care can be implemented in an equitable and accessible way.
Award-winning Professor. Dr. Rachel-Engler Stringer, assistant professor in Community Health & Epidemiology, has been awarded a SHRF New Investigator award for her work on examining the food environment in Saskatoon for families with children.
Two 2010-2011 Research Connections Grants were awarded from the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation to Anne Leis, professor in Community Health & Epidemiology for her 10th Annual SK Cancer Research Day and the two day event in motion/en mouvement National Physical Activity Institute.
Dr. Kalyani Premkumar awarded a 2010 College of Medicine Excellence in Teaching Award

College of Medicine Excellence in Teaching award. The citation mentioned
the unique and strong contribution Kalyani has made to the teaching
mission of the College and that both students and faculty colleagues
appreciate the contributions that have been made. The presentation was

Dr. Sylvia Abonyi reappointed as the Canada Research Chair in Aboriginal HealthThe Department of Community Health and Epidemiology is proud to congratulate Dr. Sylvia Abonyi, Associate Professor,
on her reappointment as the Canada Research Chair in Aboriginal
Health. This is a prestigious award is worth $500,000 towards her
research. The official event was held on Friday, March 26, 2010, in

U of S Participates in $19.5-M National Study into Childhood Brain Disorders. "With $1 million from the NCE over five years, U of S early childhood
expert Nazeem Muhajarine will lead a team that will share with Canada’s
health care professionals, researchers, affected families, and the
general public the best research and evidence on ways to identify,
treat, and prevent brain disorders in children."
