TERMS OF REFERENCE

Division of Biomedical Science  Assembly

Objectives

1. To recommend Arts & Science and Graduate students for graduation. 
2. To approve major changes to academic programs of the Departments.
3. To review the activities of the standing committees of the Division and consider recommendations related to B.Sc. and Graduate academic programs.

Associate Dean, Biomedical Sciences (ex officio)  

Associate Dean, Graduate Studies and Research (ex officio)

Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Education (ex officio)

Dean of Arts & Science (ex officio)

Associate Dean, Science Division, College of Arts and Science (ex officio)

Associate Dean, Undergraduate Affairs, College of Arts and Science (ex officio)

Faculty Members from the Departments of

·        Anatomy and Cell Biology    

·        Biochemistry 

·        Microbiology and Immunology   

·        Pharmacology

·        Physiology

Faculty in the Department of Pathology teaching in Division programs

Student representatives- (one each) from

·        Medicine

·        Physical Therapy

·        B.Sc. programs of the Division

·        Graduate programs of the Division

Appointment/Term of Office

1.      All members hold their membership by virtue of their positions or appointments.  Student representatives are selected from the respective student associations. 

2.      The Chairperson of the Assembly shall be elected from the membership.

Duties

1. To discuss issues and consider recommendations related to academic activities presented by Standing Committees of the Division, and the Executive Committee.
2. To approve substantial changes to academic policy.
3. To review academic performance of B.Sc and Graduate students and make recommendations regarding graduation.
4. To review and approve new academic programs or major changes to existing B.Sc. and graduate programs.

Meetings

The Division Assembly shall meet a minimum twice a year.

Quorum

1.      The quorum of the Division Assembly shall be 35% of the voting members of the Assembly.  In calculating this number, ex officio members identified shall not be counted.

2.      In the event that a properly constituted meeting fails for lack of a quorum, the meeting shall be rescheduled for the same time one week hence.  At that meeting, the quorum shall be the number of members attending.

Minutes

1. Minutes of all meetings shall be recorded and kept on file in the Dean’s Office.
2. The minutes shall be available to all committee members.
3. Any information deemed to be confidential in nature (i.e. student health or personal issues) shall be handled and stored in a secure manner.
4. Confidential information recorded during meetings shall be kept in the Dean’s Office files and location of this information referenced in the minutes.

Reports

The Chairperson shall provide reports to the College of Medicine Faculty Council as required.
