Dr. Jim Germida was invited to attend the B.Sc. Programs Committee to provide guidance and advice in posting a term Lecturer position within the Division of Biomedical Sciences.
1. Dr. Germida reviewed the draft advertisement and suggested removing the sentence “There is a strong possibility that this will develop into a permanent academic position.”
2. Dr. Germida recommended setting up an interdisciplinary search committee as noted in Article 13.5.1.2 of the Faculty Association Agreement. The membership will include the B.Sc. Program Committee members and additional Faculty members to ensure there are at least two representatives from each Department. This committee will determine the home department for the Lecturer position. The Lecturer position can be housed jointly in two departments according to article 13.10.
3. The Committee suggested the Departments of Biochemistry and Microbiology & Immunology might be jointly the best fit for a home department for the Lecturer position. This will be determined at a later date by the search committee.
4. Nick will contact the Department Heads via email and ask them to each appoint an additional Faculty member to serve on the search committee.
5. Details regarding assigned duties and responsibilities for the Lecturer position, including the home department(s) can be itemized in the Appointment Letter.
6. The advertisement for the position must be reviewed by the interdisciplinary search committee, and then forwarded to Dean Albritton for position approval.
Meeting adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
