Dr. Michel Desautels was invited to attend a meeting to discuss, clarify and resolve various issues regarding the HSC 208.6 Human Body Systems course.
Michel explained that the HSC 208.6 course was accidentally deleted. He confirmed that when it is reinstated it will be called PHSI 208.6. Michel clearly sated that PHSI 208.6 will remain permanently as a service course for Pharmacy & Nutrition and possibly for Nursing students. He also said that in the 2009/10 academic year only, that PHSI 208.6 will serve as an admission requirement for students who are applying to the Physical Therapy Program and the Second Degree Nursing option in the 2010/11 academic year. BMSC/BIOL 224.3 as part of the common core platform will be the entry point for physiology as approved and all physiology students will be advised to take this course. Michel apologized for the confusion and said a mistake had been made.
Michel continued with discussion about the joint physiology/pharmacology (PPY) undergraduate program currently in development. He informed the Committee that three new 300 level PPY courses (possibly labeled PPY 301, 302 and 303), will be developed first, as one or perhaps a choice of these three, coupled with the BMSC/BIOL 224.3 course will serve as the equivalent to the former HSC 208.6.
Dr. Havele mentioned that BIOL 224.3 is being offered in the summer. Michel said he would contact the Department of Biology to discuss this.
The Committee discussed the possibility of an information transfer course that might be taught by three of the BMSC Departments. It was mentioned that the Department of Anatomy & Cell Biology are considering a fourth year annual course in Histology.
Meeting Adjourned.
