IMPORTANT NOTICE: On April 20th 2013, University Senate approved the College of Medicine’s request that the College require Saskatchewan residents to have a 4-year baccalaureate degree at entrance to undergraduate medical studies.
Please note that the current requirements for application by Saskatchewan residents will remain in place for the next application cycle (ie., application due October 15, 2013 for entrance in to Medicine in August 2014).
As the only medical school in Saskatchewan, the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan has a responsibility to serve the residents of the province. As such, 90% of first year positions are reserved for Saskatchewan residents.
To increase the number of Aboriginal physicians, 10% of first year positions are available for qualified, self-identified First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students through our Aboriginal Equity Program (Note: these seats are included in the 90% allocated Saskatchewan positions).
The purpose of our admissions process is to select candidates with excellent cognitive and non-cognitive abilities, since such individuals will thrive in our learning environment. Through successfully completing our undergraduate medical program, our students become adept problem solvers, committed life-long learners, and well-rounded physicians in whatever field of medical practise they ultimately chose.
