Applicant Information

IMPORTANT NOTICE

UPDATE: On January 23, 2014, University Council approved the motion brought forward by the Admissions Committee recommending that, for application to the College of Medicine in October 2015 (for admission August 2016), all Saskatchewan residents must have written the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) prior to application. The motion now moves to University Senate on April 26, 2014 for final approval. In the event the new MCAT requirement is approved, all prerequisite requirements would be concurrently deleted.

The outcome of the final approval stage for the MCAT requirement in the case of all Saskatchewan residents will be posted here as soon as it is known.

NOTE: The current prerequisite/MCAT requirement for Saskatchewan residents remains in place for the next application cycle (application 2014 for admission 2015).

Requirements for the application cycle (August 1 - October 15, 2014) for entry fall 2015 can be found in the Applicant Information Document.

As the only medical school in Saskatchewan, the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan has a responsibility to serve the residents of the province. As such, 90% of first year positions are reserved for Saskatchewan residents.

To increase the number of Aboriginal physicians, 10% of first year positions are available for qualified, self-identified First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students through our Aboriginal Equity Program (Note: these seats are included within the 90% allocated Saskatchewan positions).

The purpose of our admissions process is to select candidates with excellent cognitive and non-cognitive abilities, since such individuals will thrive in our learning environment. Through successfully completing our undergraduate medical program, our students become adept problem solvers, committed life-long learners, and well-rounded physicians in whatever field of medical practice they ultimately chose.
