Note:  The Community Faculty Committee is a Dean’s committee

 

MANDATE:

 

The College of Medicine Committee on Community Faculty was developed to establish mechanisms to engage Faculty in the community to the undergraduate teaching mission of the College of Medicine and provide the structures for them to develop their skill as Clinical Educators and a compensation package that will properly reward them for their commitment to the teaching mission of the college.

 

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES & GOALS:

 

§         Develop an effective communication strategy for recruiting and engaging CF in the teaching activities of the College of Medicine.

§         Develop a remuneration and/or compensation package that will reward CF for their time and lost earnings while recognizing their obligation to train the next generation of Physicians.

§         Assist CF to be competent Clinical Educators by being able to teach and assess to set course and program objectives.

§         Identify and remove all disincentives into becoming and remaining as Community Faculty.

§         Bring in the Regina Clinical Membership into the program.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

 

In 2004, a Community Faculty Task Group was established to develop new approaches for the involvement of community physicians in College activities. Recommendations for new approaches for the engagement of community faculty were expected in the areas of an annual process to establish expectation, performance review processes and compensation approaches.

 

KEY MESSAGING:

- The College of Medicine is committed to build strong relationships with all Community Faculty Members that will allow for the institution to fulfill it’s mission that states “Saskatchewan’s College of Medicine improves health through excellence in education, research and clinical care.”

- Community Faculty play an essential role in the education of medical students through an integrated environment of scholarly inquiry where students, faculty, staff and the public take pride in the College as a centre.

-          Chair:  Community Faculty Member

-          Associate Dean Faculty Affairs

-          Assistant Dean Undergraduate Education

-          Two Specialist Community Faculty (1 urban & 1 rural)

-          Two Family Medicine Community Faculty

-          One Specialist Full-time Faculty

-          One Family Medicine Full-time Faculty

-          Clinical Teaching Development Coordinator, Educational Support & Development, College of Medicine

-          Alumni/Communications Officer, College of Medicine

-          Administrative Coordinator, Faculty Affairs
