Training in the Prince Albert site takes place in a variety of locations. The Victoria Hospital is the location of all of the rotations except the Family Medicine experiences. This hospital serves the city of Prince Albert and surrounding communities and is the referral center for all of Northern Saskatchewan. There is a fascinating array of patients and pathologies
seen daily.
Family Medicine experiences occur with community faculty at their respective clinics in the city of Prince Albert. These preceptors also serve clinics in nearby rural locations and residents take part in the clinics provided to these communities. Residents also spend a considerable portion of their time in rural and remote practices throughout the province.
We are a smaller program and provide a one-to-one preceptor to resident ratio, almost without exception. There is exceptional exposure to hands-on patient care, procedure opportunities, and learning experiences. The preceptors and hospital staff in general are very supportive of learners and the friendly atmosphere in our training program is better than you would find anywhere else.
The College of Medicine utilizes a distributed model of education and has approximately 270 university based faculty and over 800 community faculty distributed throughout all 13 Saskatchewan Health Regions. The College is expanding and currently has approximately 250 undergraduate students and 300 postgraduate students.
