The Division of Cardiology at the University of Saskatchewan, is located at the Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon. The division consists of 15 full-time and community based academic cardiologists offering a broad range expertise in different areas of Clinical Cardiology consistent with a contemporary Cardiology practice. Division members are committed to undergraduate and postgraduate education. The division has a high quality sub specialty cardiology training program, which offers trainees or elective students a breadth of exposure to cardiovascular disease and invasive and noninvasive cardiology.
The Royal University Hospital serves as a tertiary referral centre for the surrounding areas and northern Saskatchewan serving over 500,000 patients. It offers the required diagnostic and treatment facilities necessary, for a modern cardiology practice. Within this setting, the Division of Cardiology is able to provide an intellectual environment in which the knowledge, clinical skill, and judgment essential to the modern cardiologist, can be developed.
The Cardiology program at the University of Saskatchewan is part of a close knit Cardiology Division that trains a total of 4-6 residents annually. The program is committed to train excellent general cardiologists who are well equipped to meet the expectations of the contemporary cardiovascular specialist. As a testament to the success of The Cardiology Training Program, our trainees have enjoyed a 100% success rate with the Royal College Cardiology examination.
Dr. Sawecki (Associate Professor) is an Associate member of the Division of Cardiology with research focused on myocardial injury caused by oxidative stress in the cardiovascular system. The Cardiovascular Research Group of the the University of Saskatchewan is a interdisciplinary research group with close working relationship with members of of the Division of Cardiology ( link.http://www.usask.ca/cardiovascular/index.htm ).
