PROFESSOR
M.D., Ph.D.My academic and clinical interests are in hematopathology and immunohistochemistry as well as colorectal serrated polyps’ biology.
In hematopathology, my research is trying to answer questions on the role of PU.1 transcription factor in biology of benign and neoplastic mature B-cells.
In immunohistochemistry, my main focus is on quality control/quality assurance (QC/QA) issues and extralaboratory QC/QA programs, the aim of which is to improve performance of clinical tests used for diagnostic and prognostic purposes. From the inception until 2004, I have been a core member of the NordiQC extralaboratory program in Scandinavia (www.nordiqc.org). Currently, in collaboration with Dr. Blake Gilks from Vancouver General Hospital, Vancouver, BC, we have recently started to develop the first Canadian national QC extralaboratory testing program for diagnostic immunohistochemistry (www.ciqc.ca).
In collaboration with Dr. D. C. Snover from Minnesota, I continue my efforts to further clarify morphologic and biological aspects of sessile serrated adenoma (admittedly controversial term, but much less controversial entity) that we have described about decade ago.
