Dr. Gérard Ducasse, an eminent pediatrician, has been honoured by the Department of Pediatrics for his many years of dedicated service to Saskatoon children. In addition to his reputation as an outstanding pediatrician, Dr. Ducasse is recognized as a renowned visual artist. With Dr. Ducasse’s assistance, the Department of Pediatrics Children’s Art Gallery was established. Following his retirement, the Department of Pediatrics chose to rename the Children’s Art Gallery as the Dr. Gérard Ducasse Children’s Art Gallery. The gallery is housed in the Pediatric Outpatients Department at Royal University Hospital. With the assistance of Monique Martin, children from George Vanier School have provided spectacular paintings throughout the Pediatric Outpatient Department. In addition, representative from the school have painted the walls of the examining rooms in a variety of themes.
The Department of Pediatrics is delighted to be able to honour Dr. Ducasse in this way and is thrilled to provide a venue for displaying the talents of Saskatoon children.
The Department of Pediatrics is pleased to announce the creation of a new position, a Director of Pediatric Research and the creation of a Department of Pediatrics Office of Research Services. The creation of this new research infrastructure reflects the department’s strong commitment to research and the unprecedented momentum in research activities and funding within the Department of Pediatrics. Through this new infrastructure, the department will also facilitate and help coordinate multi-disciplinary, collaborative research among the many researchers affiliated with other colleges at the University of Saskatchewan who are engaged in research pertaining to the health and well-being of children. Dr. Alan M. Rosenberg will serve as the Director of Pediatric Research.
