The Department of Pediatrics, University of Saskatchewan and Saskatoon District Health, Saskatoon, Canada is undertaking major recruitment initiatives to expand and enhance its clinical care, teaching and research programs. This recruitment project, unprecedented in scope and magnitude in the Department, will ensure sustained excellence in patient care and academic programming.
The Department of Pediatrics is located at the Royal University Hospital on the campus of the University of Saskatchewan. The Department provides tertiary care for Saskatchewan’s children offering a comprehensive array of patient care services to a provincial population of one million. Undergraduate and postgraduate trainees are exposed to a vibrant learning environment and a faculty dedicated to maintaining the institution’s tradition of excellence in medical education. Members of the Department are engaged in an increasing variety of research projects and in the development of innovative interdisciplinary research groups. Opportunities exist for faculty of the College of Medicine to collaborate with internationally renowned research elsewhere at the University including, as examples, those relating to biotechnology, veterinary medicine and the Canadian Light Source.

PEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGIST:
The Department seeks a Pediatric Cardiologist to join the department. The successful candidate will provide consultative pediatric cardiology services for children of Saskatchewan. In addition, the successful candidate will participate in developing and guiding strategies for improving the health and health care of Saskatchewan children. The candidate will contribute to developing and delivering enhanced pediatric cardiology teaching curricula and will contribute to the design and implementation of residency program in pediatric cardiology.
PEDIATRIC NEUROLOGY :
The Department seeks one pediatric neurologist to join the Section of Pediatric Neurology. The successful candidate will provide consultative pediatric neurology services for children of Saskatchewan. In addition, the successful candidate will participate in developing and guiding strategies for improving the health and health care of Saskatchewan children. The candidate will contribute to developing and delivering enhanced pediatric neurology teaching curricula and will contribute to the design and implementation of residency program in pediatric neurology.
PEDIATRIC RHEUMATOLOGIST:
The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a second Pediatric Rheumatologist to fill a newly created, fully-funded, tenure-track position in the Section of Pediatric Rheumatology at the University of Saskatchewan. The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Saskatchewan provides general pediatric and pediatric specialty care to children in the province of Saskatchewan, a province in central Canada. The Rheumatology Program serves a catchment area of one million. The section seeks a Pediatric Rheumatologist who can contribute to providing the highest standard of multidisciplinary care to children with a broad spectrum of rheumatic diseases who reside throughout the province.
The new pediatric rheumatologist should have a strong commitment to providing inspiring and innovative teaching to undergraduate and post-graduate trainees and continuing education to practicing physicians, many of whom practice in rural and remote regions and who are intimately involved in providing local care for patients.
The section of Rheumatology has maintained an active research program since its inception in 1991. Recently, the research activities and funding have dramatically increased with anticipation of continued momentum in clinical and basic science research. The new faculty member would be expected to participate in research activities that are characterized by unique multi-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary research team approaches. Some examples of research projects include determining biologically-based outcome predictors in juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and identifying early determinants of inflammatory mediated diseases. The new faculty member would be provided with support and protected time for research and teaching responsibilities.
The province of Saskatchewan is experiencing astonishing economic growth. The University of Saskatchewan is rapidly expanding its infrastructure. For example, two new biomedical research towers are under construction and a new Children’s Hospital is in the pre-construction planning phase.

MEDICAL GENETICS :
The Department seeks one medical geneticist to join the Section of Medical Genetics. The successful candidate will provide consultative medical genetics services for children of Saskatchewan. In addition, the successful candidate will participate in developing and guiding strategies for improving the health and health care of Saskatchewan children. The candidate will contribute to developing and delivering enhanced medical genetics teaching curricula.
DIRECTOR, METABOLIC DISEASES PROGRAM:
The Division of Medical Genetics, University of Saskatchewan seeks a medical geneticist with interest and expertise in metabolic diseases to provide general genetics services and to serve as Director of the Metabolic Diseases Program in an expanding Medical Genetics program. The Director will lead a team involved in the diagnosis and management of patients with metabolic disorders and will be involved with the provincial newborn screening program. The Provincial Laboratory has recently acquired a tandem mass spectrometer for use in the newborn screening program. This position combines clinical, teaching and research opportunities. Applicants must have a medical degree and be certified or eligible for certification through the Royal College of Physicians in Medical Genetics and/or Pediatrics and must have experience in the management of patients with metabolic disorders. Applicants from candidates with clinical experiences in biochemical genetics and who are certified through the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists and/or the American Board of Medical Genetics also will be considered.
SUBSPECIALTY TRAINING POSITIONS IN NEUROLOGY AND NEONATOLOGY:
The Sections of Pediatric Neurology and Neonatology, Department of Pediatrics, offer positions for subspecialty training. Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada accredits both the neurology and neonatology programs. Candidates must have completed at least three years of core pediatric training in a Royal College accredited program.
