Terms of Reference
These terms are to be followed by the Dept of Surgery Executive Committee
- The Division Heads, including the Directors of Education and Research, shall form a Committee of Division Heads (hereinafter referred to as the “Committee”), to be chaired by the Head of the Department of Surgery.
- The Committee will usually meet every two weeks throughout the academic year (September – June), monthly in July and August, or as required.
- operation of the Department,
- financial affairs of the Department, as reviewed (at minimum every three months) by the Finance Advisory Committee
- The Committee shall receive reports from the Department Head on the
- appointment of new members to the Department
- the resolution of disputes arising within the Department
- strategic planning and manpower requirements
- academic activities of the Department, with specific input from the Directors of Education and Research
- administration and organization of the Department of Surgery
- The Committee shall act as part of the Department management team and in all respects, assist and advise the Head on the operation of the Department, specifically with regard to the following:
- All decisions of the Committee will be made by consensus, and no member shall have the right to veto any vote of any decision made by the Committee. In the event the Committee shall decide to hold a recorded vote on any matter, all Division Heads will be required to vote and shall have only one vote each. A simple majority shall be required to carry the passage of any resolution. The Department Head shall not vote unless to break a tie. The Directors of Education and Research will not vote.
- In the event of a dispute between the Committee and Department Head, any Division Head or Department member may appeal to the Dean, College of Medicine and the VP Medical Affairs, Saskatoon Health Region.
